Who’s that on Resi 1 cover art? – Mystery solved!

In the earliest of days, back in 96′ one of the now most famous survival horror series was just starting to find it’s identity. The most obvious indication of this was the very cover of the first game.

Every other game features a creature or a character that is a clear presentation and is directly featured in the game. However that wasn’t the case with the first one.

Let’s say you are familiar with the series and have just played the first one. Your first impression would be: Well it’s gotta be Chris cause it sure as hell aint Jill right?

No. Well sure is someone from the game right? Is it?

Yes, and no. Some think it has to be Richard because he’s the one who called the Alpha Team straight from the mansion and started the whole thing. Only, he doesn’t look anything like him.

And it’s also not Wesker, Brad, Berry or Rebecca Chambers.

Then who the hell is it? Thanks to the magical powers of social network now we have the answer. The artist that made the cover showed up on the twitter and decided to answer the burning question.

He says: “The character on the box isn’t based on anyone in reality (such as an actor); He’s roughly based on a character from the game. At the time I did the cover, the game’s concept was still developing. So I was told to run with it, but include certain elements like spiders etc.”

In this case, the truth really is in the middle. It IS a character from the game, but it’s unnamed random character.

There is a possibility that the character had a name but was scrapped much like some other characters and elements as this game went through many changes in it’s development.

He also look like the author himself, but that possibility seems to be unintentional.

For whatever the reason, they decided to keep the cover and while not being as iconic as some others it does convey the nature of it perfectly.

Seemengly weird face, actually simbolizes the duality. On one side you have horror and on the other you have action. Both are heavily leaning one against another in the series to this very day.

Then again it also simbolizes the dilemmas and changes in the first game itself.

It definitely took some time for that game to find itself, but we’re glad it did, since the following two were just legendary.

And the rest is history.
