MarkaN’s Doom update: Trailer and new screenshots

As the project advances the time has come to officially announce the game. Two Demos are available for download and play. Additionally, I share some new screenshots and tidbits about the game and it’s development.

First things first: The Announcement Trailer has been dropped:

The game is closing in its final stages of development. Both early and middle stage levels are done, along with the majority of the later levels. There are a few sections to be done in some later levels, as well as the final two boss fights and the final level itself.

*Demos are (just like full mod) playable with GZDoom. Download and install GZDoom then right-click on demo file and set Open with: GZDoom. When asked choose Doom 2 as PWAD. Have fun!

Here’s a sneak peek in chronological order of what you can expect from the game:

You start stranded on the rocky cliff surrounded by water and the canyon entrance nearby. There is already some opposition waiting, but nothing you can’t handle.

Your mission is to break through that canyon since there is nowhere else to go.

The first level isn’t too hard, but it contains a hidden section, plenty of secrets and a boss fight so exploration is highly encouraged.

After Canyon comes the Village and the battlefield

The second level, however, is where the game really opens up. This is where you can see what you’re up against. If you lack health or ammunition, feel free to explore the area. The secrets are abundant in every level. There are also additional challenges for completionists. Also, sometimes a secret can lead you to the places where you can “turn the table” and ambush enemies instead of the other way around.

As you advance through the village the story begins to unravel and the harbinger of doom starts to make its presence known.

The village has one advantage and that is the proximity of the water source. Follow the way of the water as you progress through the third level – The Waterway.

If the previous level felt too aggressive for you The Waterway presents a nice change of pace. It is still challenging but it seems more like you have the upper hand in this one. The demons settled underground but in this scenario, you are the unlikely visitor. The fight progresses gradually until it escalates in the final battle as the sky illuminates the caves and the waters below.

The surprising end of the waterway leads you to something completely different. An underground entrance to the tech base.

This is not an ordinary base though, as you will find out soon enough. As you explore the area you realize it is already been exploited to serve their plans, and it has to be stopped.

On your journey to uncover the mysteries and to foil the demon’s plans you proceed to what is known as the first demo level from the game – Bad Cargo.

Bad Cargo is an open level with lots of exploration opportunities and different paths to take. Don’t worry though, you won’t get lost. It is just a matter of order in which you advance.

Immediately after, here comes the second demo level – Underbase. The intensity of action continues as you break through the ranks in the unforgiving underground complex all the way to the very sinkhole where they came from. Thankfully, it is closed and one less thing to worry about.

From the underground you emerge in the open valley. You might think for a second that it is time to take a breather but the evil does not sleep. They are just scattered and it is your opportunity to explore the area and try to catch them on the wrong foot.

What comes after the valley surrounded by mountains you ask? The castle of course! This one, however, is quite different than the medieval one you’ve used to seeing. They already made it into their base of operations.

The castle has numerous facilities made to accommodate its new occupants. From the entrance area, briefing room, bio facility, prison, interrogation chamber and mini arena to the research lab. There is much to see.

As we’re getting close to the late game there is less and less of what I can share, as there are many aspects that are largely subjects to change, so I’ll end this showcase with some remaining screenshots without a specific context. Enjoy!

Until next update; Keep gaming and keep rocking!
